Free CLE: Anti-LGBTQ+ state legislation and legal challenges

Tuesday, July 11, 2023

2:00 – 3:00 p.m. EDT

Join DC LGBTQ+ Bar Association, Eversheds Sutherland (US) LLP, and the LGBT Bar Association of New York for a free CLE webcast discussing the current wave of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation across the country.

Our community is facing a crisis in legislatures across the country.

So far, in 2023, state lawmakers have introduced approximately 500 bills that would limit the rights of LGBTQ+ Americans across the country. Nearly half of the discriminatory bills target transgender individuals, including legislation that would restrict access to gender-affirming health care and opportunities at work and school.

To help empower our members to take direct action by lending their talents to this cause, the DC LGBTQ+ Bar Association, in partnership with Eversheds Sutherland, will host a free CLE panel to discuss the current wave of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation across the country, including the impact on LGBTQ+ Americans, the broader global context and the legal and advocacy efforts to prevent or challenge enactment. This is a follow-up panel to the one we hosted last year — and we are excited to welcome back two fantastic leaders in our field.

Panelists:

  • Casey Pick, Director of Law & Policy at The Trevor Project
  • Ryan Thoreson, Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Law
